On November 23, police were called to Miller’s Ale House because a patron refused to pay his bar tab. When officers arrived, a manager alerted them about a car leaving the parking lot that was being driven by the suspect. Police followed the suspect car, a Thunderbird, into a nearby Wendy’s parking lot. Even though there was a police car with a flashing siren behind him, the suspect, Kevin Shaw Jr., did not stop. Shaw proceeded to a nearby BP Station in an attempt to elude police. When police finally caught up to Shaw and asked him if he had been attempting to escape, he said yes. When authorities asked him how much alcohol he had consumed during the night, he replied, “A little too much.” He also told police that he knew he was going to jail. After running a background check on Shaw, police found out that his license was suspended from a prior DUI. As officers handcuffed Shaw, the suspect asked for a small favor, “If the judge asks, I wasn’t driving.” Shaw was arrested for DUI, driving with a suspended license, fleeing police, reckless driving, improper transfer of a tag, driving without insurance and driving on the wrong side of the road.
