Pair of DOT Projects big of North Fulton

This week at our Department of Transportation board meeting we had several contracts that we let for construction. Two projects that are important to you as North Fulton residents are:
SR 140 / Holcomb Bridge Road at CR 107 / Barnwell Road
Currently, Holcomb Bridge consists of two 12-foot lanes and one turn lane on both north and southbound approaches with a posted speed limit of 45 mph. Additionally, the southbound approach utilizes a developmental right turn lane into Ellard Drive. Barnwell Road consists of three 12-foot lane sections with a dual left turn lane onto Holcomb Bridge Road (the dual left movement utilizes a combination through/left turn lane) and intersects with Holcomb Bridge road at a 55-degree skew.
The proposed improvements will add an exclusive 300-foot right turn lane on the East Side of Holcomb bridge road with 12-foot shoulders. These improvements will bring the intersection in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards and bring much need safety improvements to this intersection. The total cost of construction is $381,785.
SR 140; CR 1817 & CR 2227 at12 Locations – Upgrade Traffic Signals
This project will upgrade existing traffic signal equipment and pedestrian facilities at various locations on Mansell Road. The intersections include: Mansell Road at North Point Parkway, Mansell Road at Ga. 400 northbound, Mansell Road at Ga. 400 southbound, Mansell Road at Davis Drive, Mansell Road at Westside Parkway, Mansell Road at Kingswood Place, Mansell Road at Colonial Center, Mansell Road at Warsaw Road, Mansell Road at WalMart, Mansell Road at Mansell Oaks, Mansell Road at Houze Road and Mansell Road at Mansell Village.
These 12 intersection improvements will increase mobility and safety and be more pedestrian-friendly.The total cost of this project is $1,764,234.
In the big picture, these two projects are small but they will have major impact on both mobility and safety. These projects are another example of how DOT is spending your money wisely to improve your quality of life.
